Welcome to the UNSW United Nations Society! We are one of the largest non-faculty constituent societies on campus. If your interests lie in international relations, global security, law, human rights, politics and diplomacy, or you just want to learn more about the world, UNSOC is the perfect place to meet like-minded students as well as those who may challenge your world views. I hope you enjoy perusing our website and learning more about us.
Whether you are a new or returning member, an undergraduate or postgraduate student, in first or sixth year, the 2021 Executive is excited to present a year filled with new initiatives and opportunities for personal and professional development.
I am excited to announce that this year we are hosting the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference, to be held early on in term 3. Keep an eye out for opportunities to participate in this amazing multi-day conference. It will include opportunities to debate the most pressing international issues, and many chances to party! We’ll also be doing our best to attend as many interstate and (hopefully) international MUN Conferences this year. Join in and become a part of the friendly Australian MUN community! If you’ve never MUNned before, don’t worry; we have regular mini-MUNs and skills workshops to boost your confidence.
The DiscoverMUN Leadership Program is another fantastic opportunity to get involved with the Society. We will select and train a group of mentors to travel to some of our partner schools in regional or rural NSW, and disadvantaged high schools in Western Sydney, run Model UN workshops with students. These workshops are designed to teach students about current political issues, and give them the confidence to speak about the issues that they are passionate about. Keep an eye out for mentor applications.
If public speaking is not your thing, we have many other exciting projects in the works. Join our mailing list to stay up-to-date, and read our blog posts on newsworthy political topics. UNSOC will be hosting guest-speaker and panel events where you can learn more about an issue that interests you. We also have career events in the works, which will be especially useful for those of you who are interested in working in the international space.
I strongly encourage you to get involved and take every opportunity that comes your way!
